TONER Family HistoryThis is an English and sometimes Irish surname. The spellings are the often the same but the origins are quite different. In England the derivation is probably from the 12th century 'ton' plus the suffix 'er'. The general translation is one who came from a farm or hamlet, but worked somewhere else! Recorded in the spellings of Towner, Toner, Tonner, and Tooner, the original meaning was probably much more specific, and perhaps referred to a worker who was a contractor, at a time when most people lived at their place of work. However one of the earliest recordings is that of Andrew Le Toner, of Pinchbeck in Suffolk, in the year 1273, and this is most definitely a job descriptive entry...

My great grandmother was Elizabeth Margaret Toner (mother's maiden name O'Neil), from Dungannon. She was likely born in the year 1900, and traveled to the USA, where she married my great grandfather, Manuel de Freyre Santander. They had children in the USA, and they later on moved to Peru, which is where I was born. I am very interested in genealogical research, so I am looking for more information about her and her Irish family.
Hi, I am not related to your Toners (not that I know of) but I do a lot of genealogy research. I was born in Armagh. Your Patrick Toner and Alice O'Neill married Jan 1871. They came from Ballinascreeen (Draperstown) County Derry.Bridget's siblings were Francis 1873, Mary 1874, Margaret 1876,Michael 1877 and Henry 1882. Patrick was born 1847 his parents were Henry Toner and Bridget McCormack. This is all I can find at the moment. Good luck on your trip. I was hoping to go back 2020 also but let's hope for 2021. Would like to meet family who remained in Ireland when I able to travel there. My great grandmother Bridget Toner born 1872 to Patrick and Alice (O'Neill) Toner and immigrated to the US in 1891. May be traveling there in 2020. email@example.com I have her birth certificate. Do you have pictures that you don't mind scanning/sharing on email? Would love to share a beer with you when I'm there and perhaps visit the area where the Toners/O'Neill (s) lived.
