PURCELL Family History
This interesting surname is widespread in both Ireland and England and is of Norman descent, a metonymic occupational name for a swineherd, deriving from the Old French "pourcel" meaning piglet. The Irish Purcells are found mainly in Counties Kilkenny and Tipperary. The picturesque ruined castle of Loughmoe, the seat of the head of the family, is a well known landmark near Thurles in Co. Tipperary. Though Norman, the Purcells did not come to Ireland until some years after the Anglo-Norman invasion of 1172, when they became adherents of the great Butler (Ormond) family. Early recordings of the surname in England include Ralph Purcel (1159) in the Pipe Rolls of Staffordshire, and William Purcell (1230) in the Pipe Rolls of Leicestershire...Select Audience

PURCELL
George Purcell born 1776 in VA is as far back as we've found. He ran boarding home in what became Fellowsville WV. Found many George names but none that tie to his death in 1869 in WV. Family gossip tells us he was Scot-Irish (family today is not catholic). Rumor said he came with a brother to america - no info found. George was born in VA per census. The Scot-Irish is where I'm trying to look these days.

St George
My 2nd great grandmother was Mary Purcell born 1817 and married Thomas St George in 1834 in Urlingford, Kilkenny. Mary died in 1874. Mary's parents were John Purcell born about 1791 in Dublin (we think - going by the Baptismal record) and he married Catherine Smith in Oct 1813 (she was born about 1791). We believe that John may have died in 1871. Catherine's death is unknown. I would like to have more information about John Purcell and his ancestors. I have already posted an email regarding my St George connection as they overlap with the Purcell families.. Mary and Thomas's son - Richard St George was born in 1839 and came to Australia in 1863. I am his great granddaughter and live in Australia.
Richard St George born 1839 (and died in 1926 in NSW, Australia) was recorded at time of death as being the nephew of Sir Richard Nicholas Purcell.
I would like to verify this connection as well as finding more about link with the Purcell families
I have been researching these families for over 15 years - sadly my mother and any family members who had more details re these people have been dead for at least 20 years.

Purcell
Ralph and Henrietta Purcell where my great great grandparents, they apparently came from Country Clare and their son was Ralph Bashford Purcell born 1860/1861. I have looked everywhere but cannot find any birth cert's of Ralph Purell or his marriage to Henrietta purcell in County clare. (They would have been born around 1820-1840.

Jacqueline Purcell
Looking for more info on James Purcell 1794-1860 who married Margaret/Mary Burke 1798-1879. Cannot find James' parents or his wives grandparents (parents being Mathew Whalen and Mary Lynch). I can share my ancestry tree to anyone who is interested. Any help is much appreciated!

Purcell
Hello my name is Celeste, Looking for any information on my 5th Great Grandfather. James Purcell, Born Ireland, around 1740, died 1793, Halifax County, Virginia. Married possibly and Elizabeth Hall. Any info about his years in Ireland or immigration would be tremendously helpful. Thank you in advance.

Purcell
I am descended from Thomas Pursell/Purcell born about 1662-1667 in Ireland. He was first married in Ireland (wife's name unknown) and he had two children born there Daniel and Dennis Purcell. They moved from Ireland to New York in the USA. Thomas was 2nd married to Christiana Van Woggelum. DNA says the family were in Ireland some 3000 years ago. This proves they are not descended from Sir Hugh Purcell who came to Ireland later. I would to connect with Irish Purcell who would join with me and having their DNA tested to see if we are related. My email address is cynthiatweedle@outlook.com and my name is Judith Purcell. I would enjoy hearing from you.
