HANLEY Family History
This is a distinguished Irish surname. Deriving from the ancient Gaelic spelling of O'hAinle", it originates from the word "ainle", meaning beauty or grace. Traditionally, Irish family names are taken from the heads of tribes, revered elders, or some illustrious warrior, and are usually prefixed by O', meaning grandson or male descendant of, or Mac, denoting son of. They are often extremley 'robust', and unlike this surname, rarely physically complimentary. The O' Hanley's originated on the banks of the River Shannon in the county of Roscommon, where the place Doohyhanly is named after them. The sept was a branch of the royal house of O'Conor, of which Rory O'Conor was the last High King of Ireland (1166 - 1175)...Select Audience

Kimberly Hanley
King Hanley of Tipperary, Ireland fought in Crusades. Castle eventually destroyed but remnants still stand. Villagers adopted OโAinle (OโHanley) as they were of the Hanley kingdom. I am a direct descendant of King Hanley (although many generations down), and my father spent time in Tipperary verifying the information and meeting direct descendant relatives of King Hanley. Why is none of this information available on the internet? No mention of King Hanley of Tipperary?

Hi. I'm Judy Curtiss and am looking for information or connections to my great great grandfather, John Joseph Hanley. He was born in Crosshaven, Cork, in 1834. Parents Joseph and Elizabeth Haines. He joined the Merchant Navy in 1849 as a boy. The next record is his marriage to Sarah Jane Aglor in Ontario, Canada. They moved to Grand Island, NY and had 3 children before the 1870 census. They were John Jr, Kathryn Elizabeth, and Mary Jane. Sarah died in 1874 and the girls were raised by other families. John and John Jr boarded with different families and worked as laborers. John Jr died in 1887 and the girls grew up and married. Mary Jane's name was changed to Margaret by one of the families she lived with and she was known as Mar
