COOKE Family HistoryThis interesting surname is of Scottish origin, and is derived from the occupational name for a cook, derived from the Latin "cocus"; the name could also have been given to a seller of cooked meats, or a keeper of an eating house. The name development since 1178 (see below) includes the following: John Coquis (circa 1190, Kelso); Radulphus Cocus (1204, Dryburgh); Richard Cook (1274, Dunfermline); William Cuk (1398, Aberdeen); and John Cuke (1402, Edinburgh). Dear Sir/Madam, Richard Cooke (from Dover) married Silvester (Silvestra) Marsh (daughter of Henry Marsh from Canterbury) in 1666. Their son Thomas Cooke immigrated to Rotterdam. I am a descendant and our Cooke family crest is the same as the Irish one shown in your website (we have lion on top). I had my DNA checked and my roots are not in England, but in Ireland/Welch/Scotland. Can you help me out with more details about Richard Cooke in connection to Ireland. Yours faithfully, Anita Cooke
