Nominate the next O’Malley Tribe Tánaiste

Background

The Irish word Tánaiste means deputy leader. In ancient times, when many chieftains died in battle, it was important to have someone who could command support and take over at short notice. In these less dramatic times, the Tánaiste of the O’Malley Clan is the Chieftain in waiting.

“Being Chieftain is being a link in a very long chain. I hope my efforts will strengthen the connections among the many O’Malleys around the world.” – Brendan O’Malley, Chieftain 2018 - 2019

“I enjoyed making new friends in Ireland and from abroad with the common heritage bond of O’Malley and related surnames. It was a great privilege to continue the tradition of Chieftainship of an Irish Clan in recognition of the great Chieftains of Ireland in times past.” – Pearce O’Malley, Chieftain 2017 - 2018

“For me, one of the most valuable outcomes of being Chieftain  was connecting with many generations and people of my own extended family.” – Sarah O’Malley Kelly, Chieftain 2016 - 2017

“The O’Malleys are spread throughout the world, Ireland, U.S., U.K., Australia, New Zealand, Canada and others. They now number in the hundreds of thousands. To be chosen as Chieftain of such a great Ancient Irish Clan is a huge honour. Welcoming O’Malleys from all parts of the world to the O’Malley gathering in June is a very exciting and enjoyable experience.“ – Denis O’Malley, Chieftain 2015 - 2016

How to become Tánaiste

Every year, at the end of the O’Malley Gathering in June, the current Tánaiste becomes the new Chieftain and we elect a new Tánaiste. Any member of the O’Malley Clan Association can nominate someone to the position, provided that they agree to accept the nomination. All nominations are presented to the Annual General Meeting and an election is held to choose the person who will serve as Tánaiste for a year and then as Chieftain for the following year. If you would like to nominate someone, please print out the form below, fill in the details, sign it and send it back to accept the nomination. Nominations must also be seconded by another member.
